Floating Lotus

Floating Lotus illuminates the opening of the heart chakra, and illustrates the feeling of being delicately supported by the Universe. The dance of life. Floating Lotus also embodies the feeling of song, and was brought into fruition by the original song "Floating" by Timothy the Writer.

About Nereids: In Greek Mythology, they are the female spirits of the water.

*Nerieda (spelled with ie- in relation to my name-sake Nerissa) is the healing spirit with in me and directly correlates to the title of this series, Nerieda's Odyssey.

Madre de Mai

Madre de Mai supports this series, and is symbolic of the root chakra being open. Madre is the emergence of womanhood, and primordial balance. South America rises from her gravel, The Caribbean rising in orbs on her left. She is Earth. She is supported by her past and her present and stands strong as a beacon of hope, and light.

The Death of Nerva

This is a mythical allegory.

If you are familiar with the Hindu Tale of the Lord of the Dance, this story parallels the story of Nataraja Shiva, and Apasmara. As the ancient tale goes Nataraja Shiva encounters Apasmara "the demon of ignorance and forgetfulness" upon his dance, and must crush him at his feet.

In this painting, Nerieda, "The Blue Goddess" encounters her former self, a fairy nymph named "Nerva" who is the manifestation of narcissistic physical beauty. In this painting she is pictured at a moment self actualization, where she realizes she must destroy Nerva, in order to rid herself of it, and become her highest truest self.

The Healer and the Tiger

The Healer and the Tiger is a painting depicting the power of manifestation. The woman with flowers in her hair, is a Reiki Healer. As she meditates she remains calm through the storm.

She is painted here as a self- portrait of myself, and embodies my aunt Cynthia Prieto (San Juan, Puerto Rico).

The pomegranate resting in her hands, is the womb. The seeds of the new woman.

The female manifesting out of the water Nerieda. The full-bodied woman. The white dove over her crown is representational of the Holy Spirit, a dove washing over her.

Here the Tiger is symbolic of Trust, and a past re-incarnation, and is her point of concentration.

The little yellow bird representational of her Solar Plexus, the emotional center beneath the naval, reminding her of greatest story.

It is important to know that our sense of self rests beneath the naval, and that is why it is so important to breathe from here. Nature is nurture, as this painting embodies the natural healing process.

The Eagle and the Warrior, She has a Voice

The Warrior is a woman who trusts in the innate healing process. She is in Divine harmony with nature.

The Yunque rainforest (Puerto Rico) is depicted here on the left, as a divine source of healing, while the flowers assist with breath.

This painting was painted with the intention of healing consciousness, and raising the Collective Vibration.

Here the emotional centers are painted as open balls of light.

This piece is a meditative painting which help visualize the opening of the emotional centers.

The Magician

This painting serves as a visual starting point for meditation.

The Magician’s story: The canvas for this painting originated as a design collaboration between myself and my design colleagues in 2012. The background began as an exploration of pattern, and initially was a horizontal piece consisting of the bright green pattern, a purple wave, and an octopus.

In 2015 the piece began to vibrate. As I flipped the canvas to a vertical composition, the face emerged. The face (or mask) is symbolic of the illusion of self. The heart chakra opening up as a flower unfolding. The eyes are placed in the hands as a symbol of trusting the heart. The throat is depicted as a vibrant blue rose to represent christ consciousness. This piece illustrates the experience of letting go, and illumination that occurs during meditation.

2015-2018, Acrylic on Canvas, size 32” x 34” perfect for large spaces, or meditation centers.

This piece is currently for sale. (Please email nerissatutiven@gmail.com or DM to inquire about pricing.)

Nerieda II

Nerieda II is a narrative piece that tells the tale of a celestial beings maiden voyage. Nerieda, depicted here in her second summer, is painted twice- once under the water, and again standing tall amongst the mighty waves.

The divine tri-ad depicted here is Light, Renewal, and Re-Birth.

The Re Birth process also illustrates the importance of friends (support system) during the re-birth process.

Good friends are key to a woman's re-birth process.

Jersey City artist Carolyn Light, created this reactionary song as a response to "Nerieda II".
